The act of gift giving is such a thrill. I love taking the time to pick out the perfect present, decorating it with pretty wrapping and a card, and seeing the look on my friends face as I present it to them. There is truly no better feeling on earth than doing something thoughtful for others.
So naturally I couldn’t wait to get home and get stuck into a brand new book available from my local library, Care Packages by Michelle Mackintosh (available here). While the cover of this book is simply gorgeous, it’s what’s on the inside that is truly special. It covers the art of gift giving from traditional to contemporary and is full of inspiration to get your creative juices flowing.
I was particularly taken by the Italian Dinner Care Package idea, so here is my interpretation.
You will need:
- Wire presentation basket (I chose a lovely bright yellow, but white would work equally well)
- Italian themed goodies such as sugo, pasta, sweets and sparkling mineral water
- Checkered or striped tea towel
- Fresh garlic
- Basil seedling
- Miniature terracotta pot
- Potting mix
What I love about this care package is that it contains everything you need for a delicious dinner, but it does’t need to be refrigerated, so you can just leave it on the doorstep as a lovely surprise.
To assemble, simply layer your goodies into the basket starting with the tea towel, then the taller items at the back and your fresh basil and garlic front and center. And voilà you’re done! It’s so pretty it doesn’t even need to be wrapped.
My neighbor Jil had been feeling unwell, so I gave her this care package which she loved. It’s a very versatile gift that can say “get well”, “thank you” or even “I love you”.
There are a few more care package ideas that I’m working on, so keep an eye for part two of this blog coming soon.
Happy gifting lovelies!
